Alpha Community Academy is located in Kicukiro District, Nyarugunga Sector in Nonko Village. It has both Nursery and Primary sections, as well as being famous for academic excellence. As a result, many parents strive to have their children in the school.
As per the follow up with regard to the school’s modes of teaching, in consideration of the after effects of COVID-19, vis-à-vis the students’ academic level, and the ability to help the students, so as to maintain academic standard it had prior to COVID-19, The Headmistress of the school Rosemary Odhiambo, had this to say, in regard to the maintenance of the school’s academic standard.
This school was founded way back in 2004, after the tragic history of Genocide which was witnessed by this country, it was therefore imperative to put in place teaching/learning mechanisms, that would help the children who had experienced trauma, who needed love and happiness thus, reintroducing the trust among them. We have about 1,070 pupils, who are cared for by their teachers, and each and every teacher has a helper, as a way ensuring that pupils internalize what they learn.”
She put an emphasis on the fact that the school focuses on quality education, and putting learners at the forefront, through identifying what the child is capable of and what he isn’t capable of, so as to make a follow-up which is relevant to the child’s capability, with special emphasis on discipline.
In addition to that, the school put in place a special program of helping quick learners so as to maintain their academic standard, hence enabling them to help their colleagues who happen to be slow learners.
The school also earmarks innovation, as an important factor in a child’s learning, with the main focus of nurturing the existing talents, because it can be useful to the child in the future.
She further called on the parents to work collaboratively with them, in order to facilitate their work regarding catching up as far as the completion of the school syllabus is concerned.
Leonard Munyembibi is a primary 4,5 and 6 maths and science teacher, who boasts of immaculate performance by the school’s pupils, ” as far as teaching/learning are concerned, there isn’t any problem, during the last academic year’s National Examinations, all of our candidates passed in grade 1.”
“With regarding to the teaching staff’s welfare we are fine, for instance, during the lock down, we never experienced any food shortage, because the school was catering for us.”
David is a primary 5 pupil, and says that he is proud of being the student of the school, as a result of having excellent performance, in an interview through English language, he praises the school’s performance, though fluent in foreign language, he is also fluent in Kinyarwanda.
Alpha Community Academy is a Christian school aiming at impacting good christian morals and values in children.
